CCHC Notification of Service
Working with a Child Care Health Consultant: Child care health consultation is a voluntary and collaborative process between an early care and education (ECE) program and a Child Care Health Consultant (CCHC). CCHCs work with ECE programs to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate strategies to achieve high quality, safe, and healthy child care environments. Support provided to ECE programs is documented in the North Carolina Health and Safety Assessment and Encounter Tool (NC HSAET) for administrative purposes.
The work of a CCHC includes:
- Providing technical assistance, and/or training through email, telephone, and on-site visits to:
- Increase the amount, quality, and sustainability of health and safety practices in the classroom.
- Address immediate health and/or safety concerns.
- Reviewing child health information such as immunization records, medication administration forms, and medical action plans.
- Using the NC HSAET to:
- Conduct initial and follow up health and safety assessments using observation, record and policy review, and discussions with early educators to identify opportunities to improve health and safety.
- Collaboratively develop and implement a quality improvement plan.
- Record technical assistance encounters and training with a child care program.
The child care program is responsible for:
- Informing early educators and other staff if/when CCHC services are being utilized.
- Informing families that the ECE program is working with a CCHC to improve the safety and health of the child care program, which may include record review and observation while children are present.
- Working collaboratively with the CCHC to implement agreed-upon quality improvement strategies.
Data is collected using the NC HSAET:
CCHCs use the NC HSAET to document their support to ECE programs and early educators. All data is stored on a secure server housed by the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Sensitive data is not collected.
