Course Refreshers are for individuals who have previously completed a Course for Trainers (formerly known as Train-the-Trainer Courses) successfully, but are currently not recognized as an active trainer by the NC Resource Center. This is due to not meeting the requirement of either:

  • Having taken the Course for Trainers in the past 3 years or
  • Providing at least one training in the past 3 years.

Course Description

The ITS-SIDS Course Refresher prepares previously trained ITS-SIDS Trainers to provide state approved and required training to early educators in their local communities on:

  • Risks for SIDS, suffocation, strangulation, and entrapment and how to prevent them.
  • Causes of SIDS, sleep related infant death, and external stressors that contribute to an unsafe sleep environment.
  • Child care rules and best practices related to safe sleep.
  • How to respond to an unresponsive infant.
  • Resources available for those experiencing grief from a SIDS death.

Trainer Eligibility Criteria

Must have previously completed the ITS-SIDS Course for Trainers successfully.

Course Logistics and Contact Form

The ITS-SIDS Course Refresher is online and free of charge. It is largely self-paced with one real-time virtual component. It takes approximately four weeks to complete. It is offered one or two times a year based on need.

Course Description

The EPR Course Refresher prepares previously trained EPR Trainers to provide state approved and required training to early educators in their local communities on:

  • Standard emergency preparedness and response procedures that can be used for all NC child care facilities.
  • The benefits of planning, preparing, and practicing for emergencies.
  • NC Child Care Regulations and best practices that support emergency preparedness and response.
  • Supporting facilities and families in responding to and recovering from an emergency.
  • How to complete the required EPR Plan template.

Must have previously completed the EPR Course for Trainers successfully.
